Why do I need a wellness coach?

Oct 12, 2020 | About

Life coaching is something you hear often these days, something that is not so strange anymore, but do we really know what it is?

The field of coaching grew rapidly in the last century as people started focussing on self-motivation, goals, habits, business growth and overall wellness. You won’t have to look far to find a coach, however, finding the right coach is the more tricky part. The best place to start is to define your needs; in what area of your life would you like to grow?

What wellness coaching can mean to you.
  • Knowing what my wants, desires and needs are.
  •  Having a purpose and a vision for my life.
  • Having long and short term goals with an optimal priority path towards it.
  • Understanding myself better and knowing how to work with my strengths.
  •  Having a broader understanding of other people’s personalities.
  • Having established good habits and gotten rid of the bad ones.
  • Dealing with inconsistencies and eliminating self-threats.
  • Raising self-confidence & self-belief.
  • Improving the way I see my circumstances (perspective of self and others).
  • Improved thinking and making good decisions.
  • Having the techniques, strategies and tools to deal with challenges and potential roadblocks.
  • Having alternative perspectives and viewpoints and better insight into opportunities.
  • Having made the necessary behavioural changes (limiting beliefs, unhelpful thoughts and attitudes).
  • Better management of emotions and emotional support.
  • Being more resilient in adversity with an improved ability to learn from mistakes and failure.
  • Overcame my weaknesses and expanded my comfort zone.
  • Strengthened core values with body language en verbal acknowledgement.
  • Better social skills and stronger relationships.

What is wellness coaching?

As your wellness coach, I will help you make changes and take action in areas that support your overall wellbeing. That can be anything from physical, mental, psychological or spiritual wellbeing. I provide a platform where you can create a vision and be guided in developing positive and lasting habits. During this time I will keep on encouraging you and keeping you accountable until you see your goals accomplished.

Things you might be interested in acquiring:

– The ability to handle stress
– To feel content and happy
– Having harmony in a busy schedule

What do you mean “not teaching” me?

Coaching is somewhat different from a teacher. Then of course, also different from a psychologist, a therapist and a mentor. Below are some quick definitions;

  • Teacher: An educator, teaching a person something they did not know.
  • Psychologist: A specialist in human behaviour and mental processes, providing assessment and therapy.
  • Therapist: A mental health professional, helping people to cope with challenges.
  • Mentor: A life model, providing experienced and trusted advice.
  • Life-coach: A guiding advisor, helping people to make decisions, set goals, develop habits and deal with problems.

So, I’m therefore not planning to teach you something new, but rather to bring out what is already in you. I’m not going to analyse your psyche, rather I’m going to help you see what true potential you have and support you in achieving that goal.

How do you help me help myself?

Having a coach is having an accountability partner. Someone who will support and encourage you when you feel like quitting. A coach provides support and inspiration so that you can push through and get over the obstacles.

Another great benefit of having a coach is having someone that looks at your situation from an objective point of view, giving you an honest assessment and portraying things back to you that you might have overlooked.

As your coach, I will ask you questions so you can get perspective of where you are. Together we’ll define your goals and the challenges that could stand in the way and then outline the steps needed to achieve your goals.

To get closer to the dream-you are as easy as taking one tiny step in the right direction.
What step are you going to take today?
